Most people associate the term psychedelic with the drugged out rock of the 1960’s and the 1970’s. Yet, most people are unaware of the significant resurgence it has had in the past few years. As the indie rock scene bloomed during the late 2000’s and 2010’s, many artists started experimenting with a whole myriad of possible sounds. Perhaps, none are as unique as Australia’s Tame Impala who revitalized the essence of psychedelic rock and combined it with a contemporary twist.
Introducing Tame Impala
Tame Impala hails from West Australia and is known for their distinctive take on psychedelic music. It was founded by their vocalist and frontman Kevin Parker exactly a decade ago back in 2007. Parker’s role in the group is crucial as he personally writes, records, performs, and produces the music.
Starting as a home recording project for Parker, Tame Impala has since grown to be a world-renowned phenomenon. Joined by Jay Watson, Dominic Simper, Cam Avery, and Julien Barbagallo, Tame Impala has been all over the globe performing in numerous music festivals and sold-out concerts. With three full albums under their belt, it seems psychedelic rock has found its new champion.
